The protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) is a contentious issue in developing and emerging economies. While countries like China are often reluctant to strengthen IPRs, industrialized countries complain about welfare losses in their markets due to foreign counterfeiting and piracy. In this context, Johannes Liegsalz empirically analyzes the legal framework and the economic relevance of patents in the People’s Republic of China. His results show that IPRs play a vital role in contemporary China and that they have a positive impact on international trade flows and foreign direct investments.

This book presents fundamentals and important results of vector optimization in a general setting. The theory developed includes scalarization, existence theorems, a generalized Lagrange multiplier rule and duality results. Applications to vector approximation, cooperative game theory and multiobjective optimization are described. The theory is extended to set optimization with particular emphasis on contingent epiderivatives, subgradients and optimality conditions. Background material of convex analysis being necessary is concisely summarized at the beginning. This second edition contains new parts on the adaptive Eichfelder-Polak method, a concrete application to magnetic resonance systems in medical engineering and additional remarks on the contribution of F.Y. In dieser Arbeit werden die Auswirkungen der in den Jahren 1999 bis 2005 durchgeführten Steuer- und Sozialreformen auf die automatische Stabilisierungswirkung der Einnahmen und Ausgaben des staatlichen Gesamthaushalts in Deutschland untersucht. Gegenstand der Untersuchung sind dabei sowohl die Auswirkungen der Steuer- und Sozialreformen auf die Stabilisierungswirkung einzelner Einnahmen und Ausgaben als auch die Auswirkungen auf die Stabilisierungswirkung des staatlichen Haushalts insgesamt. Zudem wird untersucht, wie sich die Intensität der automatischen Stabilisatoren Deutschlands im internationalen Vergleich darstellt. Abschließend wird vor dem Hintergrund der gefundenen Ergebnisse die Rolle der automatischen Stabilisatoren in der deutschen Fiskalpolitik diskutiert.
